India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
Candidates are selected for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 posts through a computer generated merit list. This list is made using the marks scored in the 10th class examination. The merit list will be released separately for all 23 circles on the official website https://indiapostgdsonline.gov.in/.
- Applicants are selected through a system generated merit list.
- The merit list is prepared using marks or converted grades from the 10th class examination of approved boards, calculated as a percentage up to four decimal places.
- Passing all subjects as required by the board rules is compulsory.
- If a mark sheet shows both marks and grades, only the total marks from all compulsory and elective subjects are counted, and extra subjects are not included.
- If the mark sheet shows only subject wise grades, marks are calculated for each compulsory and elective subject by multiplying the grade points by 9.5, and extra subjects are not counted.

- Document Verification Process – Candidates whose names are shown in the GDS merit list are temporarily selected for document checking. This process will be done at the given Divisional Office. - Medical Test – After document checking, candidates will be asked to go through a medical fitness test as per India Post rules. Once this is cleared, the selection becomes final and appointment letters are given to the selected candidates.
- Appointment Letter – After document checking and the medical test, selected candidates get their appointment letter. They have to report to the given post office to complete joining work. After that, they will attend basic training to learn the job.

Candidates will be selected for Gramin Dak Sevak, Branch Postmaster, and Assistant Branch Postmaster posts based on a merit list prepared by India Post. Those who are appointed will receive a monthly salary for the work they do.
The pay for GDS and Assistant Branch Postmaster ranges from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 24,470 per month, while the pay for Branch Postmaster ranges from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 29,380 per month. Along with the basic pay, selected candidates will also get other allowances and benefits as per the rules.
